From cleanroom to cold room, in real time

Particle counters, pressure sensors, stability chambers, ultra-low freezers and process equipment publish over MQTT; your environmental monitoring system, MES, QMS and data lake subscribe. ConnectMQ moves the data — your validated systems keep the record.

The challenge

What makes pharma data hard to move

  1. 01

    Islands of monitoring

Cleanrooms, warehouses, QC labs and production each have their own monitoring system, vendor and dashboards. A site-wide view of temperature, humidity and pressure means logging into four tools.

  2. 02

    Excursions noticed late

A freezer drifting at 2 a.m. or a cold-room door left ajar is often spotted on the next round or in a daily report — hours after the readings started to move.

  3. 03

    Every interface needs validation

Adding a sensor or a new consumer to a validated system takes change control and documentation. Point-to-point integrations multiply that effort with every new interface.

Why ConnectMQ

A clean data path from sensor to validated system

ConnectMQ is the transport layer: devices publish once, every system that needs the data subscribes, and the integration stays the same as you add rooms, sites and consumers.

  • Managed and isolated

Each instance is a private broker run for you — no broker servers for IT to build and patch at every site. Start with one cleanroom suite and move up a plan as you grow.

  • Controlled access per topic

TLS on every connection, credentials per gateway and application, and per-topic ACLs: a QC dashboard can read the stability chambers without touching production topics.

  • One structure, many consumers

Model site, building, room and asset in the ISA-95 topic workspace. QoS 1 and persistent sessions let a briefly disconnected subscriber catch up on what it missed.

  • Early heads-up

Threshold rules flag a freezer warming, a room losing its pressure differential or a chamber leaving its band and notify the people on call — next to the alarms in your EMS.

Pharma & Life Sciences: frequently asked questions

Can MQTT be used in a GMP environment?

MQTT can be part of a GMP data flow, but it is the transport, not the record. ConnectMQ moves readings from sensors and gateways to your systems; your validated EMS, MES or QMS stores them, keeps the audit trail and is covered by your validation. ConnectMQ is not a validated GxP system itself, so define its role in your own risk assessment.

Is MQTT secure enough for pharmaceutical data?

ConnectMQ gives every customer an isolated broker instance, with TLS on every connection, separate credentials for every gateway and application, and per-topic ACLs. Environmental and equipment data usually carries no patient information; what you publish and how you classify it is your decision.

How do I connect cleanroom sensors to MQTT?

Most particle counters, ΔP transmitters and temperature/humidity sensors speak Modbus, 4–20 mA or a vendor protocol. An edge gateway reads them and publishes to topics such as pharma/basel/bldg-2/grade-b/room-214/dp, with the source timestamp in every payload.

How does MQTT avoid losing monitoring data?

Use QoS 1 so every message is acknowledged, persistent sessions so the broker holds messages for a subscriber that reconnects, and buffering on the gateway for network outages. Last Will tells your systems the moment a gateway drops off, so a gap is visible instead of silent.

What Is a Managed MQTT Broker? Benefits, Costs and How to Choose

A managed MQTT broker lets you run IoT messaging without operating servers, certificates or patches yourself. Compare managed and self-hosted, pick a deployment model and connect your first client in five minutes.
