# Real-time MQTT for financial services

ATMs, POS terminals and branch equipment need watching, and customers expect prices and alerts in their app the instant they change. ConnectMQ is the managed MQTT broker that carries device status and live updates — while your core banking and payment systems stay exactly where they are.

The challenge

## Where real-time breaks down in finance

1. 01

    ### Terminal fleets you can’t see

ATMs and POS terminals report to a vendor tool or not at all. Low cash, cassette jams, receipt printer faults and lost connectivity often surface as a customer complaint or a merchant call.

2. 02

    ### Live data to thousands of screens

Quotes, order status and balance alerts must reach web and mobile apps instantly. Polling REST endpoints from every open app loads your backend and still feels slow at market open.

3. 03

    ### Branches and data centers to watch

UPS, cooling, rack sensors and branch equipment live in yet another tool. Operations wants one live view without opening new inbound paths into sensitive networks.

Why ConnectMQ

## A managed broker next to your core systems

MQTT does not replace your payment switch or core banking. It carries device status, events and live updates between the edge, your apps and the back office — on a private ConnectMQ broker your team does not have to run.

- ### Private broker, no cluster to run

Each ConnectMQ broker is a private, isolated instance. Your team connects terminals, gateways and apps instead of operating, scaling and patching broker infrastructure.

- ### TLS, credentials and per-topic ACLs

Traffic runs over TLS or secure WebSockets, every device and service has its own username and password, and per-topic ACLs decide who may publish or subscribe. Keep card and account data out of payloads.

- ### Publish once, fan out to every app

A pricing service publishes a quote once and every subscribed app, dashboard and alerting service receives it. Retained messages give a freshly opened app the last price, and QoS lets you trade speed for guaranteed delivery.

- ### Rules and alerts on device events

Threshold rules on cash levels, heartbeats or temperatures raise alerts and notifications, and Last Will flags a terminal or gateway the moment it drops off the network.

Key use cases

## Key use cases in Financial Services

Banks, payment providers and fintechs usually start with terminal fleet monitoring or live updates in the app — and keep both on one broker with separate topics and permissions.

## Financial Services: frequently asked questions

Is MQTT secure enough for banking and payments?

MQTT over TLS with per-client credentials and per-topic ACLs — all provided by ConnectMQ — is a sound transport for device status, events and live app updates. It is not where card or account data should live: keep authorization and cardholder data in your payment stack and its compliance scope, and publish only the operational data around it.

How do I monitor ATMs and POS terminals with MQTT?

Have the terminal agent or a branch or store gateway publish a retained status — cash level, faults, connectivity — to topics like fin/atm/{branch}/{atm}/status, with a Last Will that marks it offline. Your monitoring dashboard subscribes to the whole fleet, and ConnectMQ rules alert on low cash or a silent terminal.

Can I stream real-time market data to mobile and web apps over MQTT?

Yes, for distribution to end users. Your pricing service publishes per instrument, such as md/quotes/EURUSD, and apps subscribe over secure WebSockets to the instruments on screen; retained messages show the last price at once. Exchange connectivity and matching stay in your low-latency stack — MQTT handles the fan-out to clients.

MQTT vs WebSockets vs push notifications for fintech apps?

They complement each other. MQTT runs over WebSockets in the browser and adds topics, QoS and retained messages on top of a raw socket. While the app is open, MQTT delivers prices and order status live; when it is closed, your backend sends a mobile push through APNs or FCM. Many teams publish an event once and route it to both.
